Wednesday 11th May – P7 group photos

Tuesday 17th May – Trip to Fairburn Activity Centre

Tuesday 7th June – Trip to Glasgow Science Centre

Tuesday 14th, 15th & 16th June – P7s three day visit to IRA.

Further details of these trips and outings will follow.

Easter Eggcitement!

Well…where has the time gone? We can’t believe the Easter Holidays are nearly here!

The children in P7 have had a such a busy term learning lots – both inside and outside the classroom. During topic lessons, they have designed and created some fabulous inventions and have worked hard in P.E. – taking part in cross-country and athletics activities. Fractions and symmetry have been a focus during maths lessons, whilst in language, the children have been developing their persuasive writing skills.

Next term, we are looking forward to our P7 trips, details of which will be shared after the holidays.

We hope you all have a lovely holiday and look forward to seeing the children back in schoool at the start of our final term.

“Hauld yer Wheesht!”

This month, we are celebrating Scot’s Language as a school!

Every class has been given a ‘Scots’ words and have made a large display poster. These have been put up in the hall for all to see!

P7B had the work ‘Mawkit’ and P7M had the word ‘Hooley’ – you can ask the children if they now know what their word means!

On Friday 29th January, we are having a Burns’/Scotland day celebration. Already, some children are preparing by learning some highland dancing, whilst others are learning Scottish songs or poems in class. On Friday, we would encourage the children to wear something tartan if they can, or dress up as a famous Scot!

Here is a famous Poem about a mouse by Robert Burns, can you understand it?

Merry Christmas!

What a fantastic second term in Primary 7!

Everyone has been working hard with assessments, taking part in the Christmas concert as well as continuing being excellent  P7 role models to the rest of the school.

In terms of transition we have already been delighted to welcome first and sixth years from the IRA who spoke to the year group about expectations and subjects. In addition, Primary 7 have had the privelege of a visit from the IRA geography department and have taken part in an S1 geography lesson.

Next week we have been invited to a P7 ceilidh where we will have the opportunity to meet our peers from the other primaries who will also  be going up to the IRA after summer.

We still have lots more to look forward to and we will keep you updated!

Keep following us on twitter @hiltoninverness.

What are you up to?

As we come to the close of the first Primary 7 term in two weeks time, the real question is, “What haven’t we been up to?”

From new responsibilities and school jobs such as hall monitors, games cupboard assistants and lunch assistants to trying out new instruments, through weekly drumming sessions with Mr Oparka – P7 have been a busy bunch!

P7 have enjoyed their first trip, a visit to Inverness Vue Cinema, as well as being the first privileged year group to use the new set of 10 mini ipads

We have been studying history at topic time, but making it relevant right up to the present day by basing our research around the question, “How did WWII Change Scotland?”

WW2

In maths we have been trying to sharpen up our mental maths, particularly focusing on our times tables knowledge.

In language time, we have been trying to meet the standards for P7 presentation in handwriting and grammar and our next big push will be to focus on improving spelling and reading.

Alongside the rest of the school we have been celebrating ‘Scotland Year of Food and Drink’,  learning about Scottish foods and making our own,

Out and about we have been taking part in weekly rugby training and are due to attend a rugby tournament where we will meet our P7 peers, who will also be moving up to the I.R.A at the end of the year.

All in all, it’s been a whirlwind of a term and we look forward to a well earned rest over the holidays, ready to hit the ground running when we return in October!

Well done Primary 7 –  a craicing start to the year!

Cinema Time!

Yes it’s true! As a reward for good behaviour at the start of Primary 7, we are about to embark on our first exciting trip of the season to Vue cinema on Tuesday 8th September!

There we will have the opportunity to kick back, relax and watch Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out”.

Please remember to return your permission slip and £1 for the bus to your class teacher by this Monday (7th September 2015)!

Primary 7 ….and 3 weeks in already!

It’s a busy, old time in Primary 7. Already we have taken on many new P7 responsibilities, as we settle into our final year at Hilton Primary School.

This term we have the privilege of participating in Rugby training every Thursday, as well as the chance to try our hand (or hands) at drumming, also on a Thursday!

We are excited about getting stuck into our new topic of WW2 and even more keen to share our own ideas and about things we would like to research and explore.

If anyone has any WW2 related artifacts or books at home, please feel free to bring them in to share with the year group!

Summer Holidays!!

P6 Dream Team would like to take this opportunity to thank the youngsters for all the hard work they have displayed throughout this year.  We would also like to thank parents for their support and understanding!

The year has gone past in a flash and we have really enjoyed working with the youngsters! We are certain that they are going to make fantastic P7 pupils and will be more than ready to take on the roles of responsibilty that willl come their way next year.

We are sure that you’ll be looking forward to the holidays as much as we are and we hope you have a great 6 weeks off!

P6 Fairburn

P6 had a wonderful experience on the recent visit to Fairburn Activity Centre.  It was great to see the children taking part in the activities with so much enthusiasm and they are already looking forward to potentially making a return trip when they are in P7.   The instructors commented positively on the behaviour and fantastic attitude that the children displayed throughout the day and in our opinion the children were a credit to our fine school! 🙂
