The Summer term is already in full swing and it is clear that the children are up for the fun and challenges that they face in the coming weeks. The air of positivity within the P6 year group is almost tangible! The Dream Team here with an update on the learning that will be taking place this term. Your children can look forward to a fun filled learning experience!
Numeracy:
- Data Handling (league tables)
- Probability (scores and scorers)
- Measurement (length, weight and capacity)
Literacy:
- Reading ( football reports)
- Writing (match reports, player profiles, player interviews)
- Talks
Health and Wellbeing:
- Importance of a balanced diet (Five main food groups) (Surviving off the land, Bear Grylls style)
- Breakfast cereals ( Which cereals are healthiest? What makes them healthier? labelling, branding, creating a new brand, advertising)
Topic:
- Highland Clearances (idea sparked from class novel ‘The Desperate Journey’ by Kathleen Fiddler)
To celebrate our local club Inverness Caledonian Thistle reaching the Scottish Cup Final, we have decided to embrace the positive vibe by linking this to our learning. We will be creating a ‘mini football festival’ which, as well as allowing the children opportunities to develop their teamwork and personal fitness, it will also link to Literacy and Numeracy. P6 pupils will be given the opportunity to commentate on games, interview players, write match reports, create cheer leading routines, update league tables and much more as the fun unfolds.
