P6 Update

P6 have had a really busy term so far and there is going to be no let up in the fun and learning in the remaining four weeks!  We still have sports day, talent show and the ‘footie’ festival to come and here’s hoping the sun shines on all of us.  It is hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end and in just under three months the children will in P7!

We had great fun thinking up inventive ways to support Inverness Caledonian Thistle (ICT) in their quest to win the Scottish Cup. It was rewarding for us to receive warm and positive support relating to our banner displays on the fence from the local community.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents who were able to attend the Open Evening on Thursday 4th June.  It was great to see you all and have the children share their learning with you.  Thanks for the positive feedback – it was much appreciated!

Four-a-side Fun ‘Footie’ Festival

Thursday the 14th of May sees the opening round of games in our fantastic four-a-side fun ‘footie’ festival.  All the children will have the opportunity to play as a member of a team. They will also undertake various responsibilities e.g. photographer, score keeper, equipment manager etc.

The festival will run over a few weeks and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the sun will join us on the next few Thursday afternoons.

The school will supply football tops and these will be handed out every Thursday.  It is recommended that every child takes a non fizzy drink for the purpose of refreshment.

Welcome Back!

The Summer term is already in full swing and it is clear that the children are up for the fun and challenges that they face in the coming weeks.  The air of positivity within the P6 year group is almost tangible! The Dream Team here with an update on the learning that will be taking place this term.  Your children can look forward to a fun filled learning experience!

Numeracy:

  • Data Handling (league tables)
  • Probability (scores and scorers)
  • Measurement (length, weight and capacity)

Literacy:

  • Reading ( football reports)
  • Writing  (match reports, player profiles, player interviews)
  • Talks

Health and Wellbeing:

  • Importance of a balanced diet (Five main food groups) (Surviving off the land, Bear Grylls style)
  • Breakfast cereals ( Which cereals are healthiest? What makes them healthier? labelling, branding, creating a new brand, advertising)

Topic:

  • Highland Clearances (idea sparked from class novel ‘The Desperate Journey’ by Kathleen Fiddler)

To celebrate our local club Inverness Caledonian Thistle reaching the Scottish Cup Final, we have decided to embrace the positive vibe by linking this to our learning.  We will be creating a ‘mini football festival’ which, as well as allowing the children opportunities to develop their teamwork and personal fitness, it will also link to Literacy and Numeracy. P6 pupils will be given the opportunity to commentate on games, interview players, write match reports, create cheer leading routines, update league tables and much more as the fun unfolds.

Happy Teachers

The P6 Team aka The Dream Team would like to take this opportunity to thank all the children for the great effort they have displayed this term.  We feel that we are very fortunate to have such hard working, enthusiastic and talented youngsters in P6!

We hope you all have a fantastic Easter break.  You deserve it!

P6 Update

Today was our last swimming session at the Aquadome.  It has been great to see the childrens’ confidence and ability improve over the last few months.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Aquadome for all of their hard work, patience and perseverance.  Thanks again!
